The Drink That Inspired lemon +honey

It all begins with an idea.

When creating the name for my mobile bar, I drew a blank when it came to ideas at first. I knew that I wanted my brand to give off vintage, botanical, free spirit vibes. Then I thought of one of my ultimate favorite cocktails, which consists of lemon, honey, and gin. Can you guess what it is?

If you know anything about the cocktails that came out of the Prohibition Era then you may have guessed correctly. A Bee’s Knees! During that time, the saying '“bee’s knees” was a popular slang term for saying something is outstanding. It’s tangy, slightly sweet, and so delightful, not to mention it is quite an aesthetically pleasing cocktail. Gives off the cottage core vibes for sure.

To make a Bee’s Knees you only need a few ingredients and tools it’s quite simple really.

  • Gin. I love using Hendricks, it gives the cocktail a beautiful purple color and a bit of a floral element due to the butterfly pea blossom used to give the gin that famous color. Another good option is Drumshanbo Gunpowder Irish Gin.

  • Honey. I highly suggest making honey syrup, combining equal parts honey and hot water. This makes it super easy to measure out.

  • Lemon. ALWAYS FRESH squeezed lemon juice. Seriously, it makes a difference.

  • Ice. How else are you gonna get the drink chilled?

  • Some other tools and accessories you will need are a shaker(I use a Boston shaker), a jigger, a citrus squeezer, a cocktail strainer, and your favorite coupe glass.

To start fill that coupe glass with ice and set it aside. This will ensure your glass is nice and cold when you're done.

Next, add your gin to the shaker.

Add the honey syrup you made.

Then pour the freshly squeezed lemon juice in the shaker.

Add the ice from the glass to the shaker and a little bit extra.

Shake until chilled for about 30 seconds.

Strain into your chilled coupe glass, additionally use a fine mesh strainer to catch any ice shards that might make it through the Hawthorne strainer. Garnish with a thin lemon slice or a lemon twist. My favorite is the lemon slice.

Grab a book, lay in the sun, and enjoy the cocktail that inspired the name of my traveling bar!

Let’s Talk Zero-Proof Alcohol!

Hi! Sav her owner and operator of lemon+ honey. In light of the new year coming up and the talk of a dry January, I figure we could talk a bit about NA beverages.

When developing my traveling bar. I wanted to have something that I didn’t see all too often in the industry and add a bit more inclusiveness. That is some bomb mocktails for those who don’t drink. Maybe a couple wants to hire a mobile bar for their wedding but either they don’t drink or have a lot of family and friends that are sober. I wanted to offer the option to have a non-alcoholic beverage package option that is more elevated than sodas or sparkling water. Additionally, I wanted my client to an an option to add an amazing zero-proof cocktail to their menu.

Marrionberry Mule Mocktail

I am a firm believer that you do not NEED to have alcohol to have fun. Even though sometimes 🙃 We all know it can help if you are an introvert in social situations, but you tend to feel sluggish, hungover, or regret drinking in the morning. I know a lot of people who are sober and love the cute pretty drinks. Often people tend to label mocktails as childish or boring and sometimes they are way too sweet., On the other hand, we label alcohol as an adult-beverage, mature, or fun. So to have more options we have an option to add zero-proof liquor and craft mocktails to clients’ event menu.

I would love to share one of my favorite mocktails to make. A Mojito Mocktail.

Grab your favorite Collins glass, add half of a lime quartered to the glass, and muddle to release the juice. Then add leaves from 2 mint sprigs to your glass and muddle lightly. Add, 1 oz of agave, then stir to mix all that goodness. Finally, fill it with ice, top it with sparkling mineral water, and give it a little stir.

This mocktail is just as good if not better without rum, so refreshing I could drink them all night long!

So… if you are an NA beverage girly who has a big event coming up and would love the have so cute, classy, and fun mocktails at your event hit us up!
